We open with Friday night dinner at the Gilmore estate. Glad to have Richard and Emily back! We don’t see a lot of new characters, but a little more development in Rory and Lorelei. We do get to visit the country club and meet some other odious characters (Not just Gloria…).
Characters
All the usual’s
Lorelei, Rory, Richard, Emily, Michel, Sookie, Jackson, Drella, Luke, Ms.
Patty, Babette, and Maury.
Drella is a
riot as usual, so snarky! I think I wish I could be her.
We are introduced to
some tertiary characters; the twins mother and some men and women from the
country club. I do find the mother of
the twins interesting, how can one person be so miserable?
The men from the
country club remind me instantly of the old bankers in Mary Poppins! The laughs
and comments. Someone start singing “I Love to Laugh.”
Fashion
It appears we are seeing Emily dress a
bit different. This time with a brown sweater and tan shirt. The tan undershirt is still very proper and
uncomfortable looking. Interesting choice with the starfish broach, if you know
the legend of the starfish.
Rory is still a bit of a mess. The tan
pants she wears golfing are just awkward and ill-fitting. And that hat! Oh, that hat…
Ms. Patty and Babette both have weird
messy hair styles in this episode. Very
curly and fuzzy. Perhaps it was humid
during filming? Maybe curly was a theme because I love, love, love Rory’s hair
at the wedding. Wavy and pinned back at the sides. Very neat and sweet for her.
Sets
We are introduced to
a new set in this episode, the Country Club.
Very nice, well kept golfing grounds.
I have to say, I grew up on the west coast and the course looks an awful
lot like a southern California course and less like it belongs in
Connecticut. Do they have oak trees in
Connecticut?
There is a wedding at
the Inn and we really get to see more of the pretty grounds of the Inn. Love the stone pathway and the set-up for the
wedding tent! Very pretty.
Pop Culture
There were more pop culture references
that I caught in the episode!
Some take me back to watching TV with
my grandparents and some more current… still great,
though! I love these inserts; they make us think.
- Bob Barker
- Lion-Head Woman (Joselyn Wildenstein)
- Antonio Banderas
- Tiger Woods
- Merger of Forscape and DSS
- Golf – A good walk spoiled (Mark Twain)
- Polaroid
- Post-It
- N’Sync
- Pepe Le Pew
- Peyton Place
- Menken’s Chrestomathy
- Steinway
Quotes
The fast dialog continues to keep me fascinated
in this show! It keeps my attention and I don’t want to look away for fear of
missing something hilarious! Here are
some of my favorite quotes:
“Is there a crazy team? Cause I think
they’d make you captain!” -Lorelei
“This is my favorite place in the
whole world” – The Twins Mother. Yes,
yes it is… ours too.
“There are no rights and wrongs in the
learning process” – Richard
“Hey, the world was flat until someone
took a boat trip.” -Jackson
“Did you know golf courses are an
environmental blight because of the chemicals the use to keep the grass green?”
-Luke
“Quite? What’s with the quite?” -Lorelei
“You brought us used dessert?” Emily
Miscellaneous Comments:
At the beginning,
they are discussing Lorelei the first, our Lorelei’s name-sake. They talk as though she has passed. Seems
like a fun, well-rounded lady!
We really get to see
the start of the chaos that is the Gilmore hired-help situation. In the first episode, we see only one maid.
We don’t have a chance to talk about it in episode two, but here we learn we
are on maid/cook number 6! Heidi, Trina, Sophia, Anton and now Sarah (Mira).
Best of luck to you Mira, you’re gonna need it!
The look on Michel’s
face when the twin grooms walk in! HYSTERICAL!
Luke – is he just and
angry hippy, forced to work in the diner? He obviously own’s it, but why? What
is making him so angry?
Mick is back in this
episode, only instead of installing DSL, he is delivering swans. He still a dry
personality and comes across angry about the swans.
Is the living room in
the Gilmore Estate different in the second dinner than it was in the
first? The placement of the bar and the
couch seems off. Aren’t there supposed to be chairs across from the couch?
Final Thoughts
Maid Count: Bumper crop! We are up to
6! (5 new maids/cook’s since episode one.)
Overall I would give this a 3 out of 5
Rasta Cap’s.
During the first
Friday dinner, I find myself rooting for Emily to win the argument about
golf. Which she does and Lorelei’s reaction
sets the mood for the rest of the episode.
Throughout we see Lorelei’s tough struggle with anything to do with her
parents. It’s obvious that Rory fits in
and Lorelei’s immaturity shows.
Rory’s character
changes a little in this episode. She is less angry teenager and more like a
sweet girl with typical teen tendencies.
She’s so sweet and honest towards her grandfather and then frustrating
with her mother.
Sookie has another
crazy moment when she steps out into the street and makes the bicyclist crash.
The humor of Lorelei talking about obsessing to Sookie! Then the street chase
after Jackson!? Will you two make out already!
I liked the
episode, but Lorelei seems ridiculous.
Totally over-reacts about the sweater and the boob fight! Who’s the grownup
here?
